Konjac Sponge Review

I started following the Acne.org Regimen 2 years ago, which is essentially a routine that promotes the use of gentle cleansers, moisturizers and 2.5% BP to control acne. It also advises against any means of excess irritation which can aggravate the skin.

But since I am not allowed to use any scrubs or harsh chemicals to exfoliate my skin I find that my pores keep getting clogged and my makeup isn’t being removed completely. I used to use the Clarisonic Mia until it made my skin breakout horribly one day so I decided to find some exfoliating device that won’t aggravate my skin so much.

I came across the Konjac sponge, specifically the bamboo activated version. This sponge claims to reduce blackheads, acne and is excellent for sensitive or oily skin. The sponge is also vegan and is made with 100% pure Konjac plant root with added natural bamboo charcoal.

The cost: $9.57 on amazon.com

The steps to use are simple:

  1. soak the sponge under warm water for 3-5 minutes
  2. gently massage the sponge onto the face in circular motions
  3. rinse sponge and hang to dry

*this sponge can be used with or without a cleanser

My opinion:

This sponge is exactly what I needed in my skincare routine! I usually use jojoba oil to take off my makeup then use a gentle cleanser after. However my skin never felt fully clean and my pores were still clogged! After using this sponge for a few days I can really see a huge difference in my skin texture and clarity. My acne scars are also lightening up a bit but that could from the vitamin c serum I have been using. Nevertheless I still think this sponge is a great substitute for harsh scrubs and exfoliating devices since those products tend to be really irritating and harsh on the skin.
