How I Got Rid Of My Cystic Acne

Throughout highschool my skin was fairly clear with the occasional breakout.

When I turned 18 I started noticing that my breakouts weren’t your normal whiteheads but they were cystic and very painful. Most women notice them around their chin area but mine would only appear on my forehead. After doing a lot of research, I found that acne that arises on your forehead and eyebrows can be correlated with increased consumption of dairy and any food that I may be allergic to. So I decided to do a little experiment and cut out dairy from my diet for 2 months. Although it got rid of a lot of my acne, I still had some left over.

So I searched online for holy grail products that can tackle my acne and came across was created by Dan Kern who was so tired of his breakouts and nothing seemed to work for him! He came up with this three step regimen that he swears by.

1. Gentle cleanser

2. 2.5% benzoyl peroxide

3. Moisturizer for your skin type

Even though he sells his own products on the website, he lists many products that can be used instead. The whole purpose of his regimen is to minimize irritation on the skin. When we wash our face, dry it off with a towel and rub our skincare on, it all increases unnecessary irritation that is really harmful to your face. So Dan posted a step by step instructional video and post that we can follow.

Personal experience:

I have used the regimen twice in my life and the first time it took 2 months for my skin to notice a difference. After about 4 months my skin was totally clear with some left over hyper-pigmintation of course. I then decided to stop and use other products which was the absolute worse thing I could do for my skin! After about 2 weeks my whole face started breaking out in cystic acne again so I quickly went back to Dan’s regimen. It has been about 7 weeks now and I am seeing a lot of progress however I still have a few smaller acne bumps on my forehead. I am hopeful to see results in coming months and I will update you all on the results!

3 month update:

It has been just over 3 months and my skin has totally cleared up! I only have one current acne spot thats quickly healing. I noticed that once I hit the 2 month mark the spots have quickly gone down and my face gets clearer and clearer each day! I highly recommend this system for people who are struggling with acne and do not want to take Accutane however I must advise to continue using it for at least 6 months!

6 month update:

So, its been 6 months since I started the regimen again and I couldn’t be any happier! Since my skin tone is more ethnic, my hyperpigmintation has been quite stubborn. However my skin is totally clear! I started to reduce the amount of BP I use from twice a day to once every other day since I don’t need it as much anymore!

The best part of this regimen is that they aren’t trying to sell you any products! If you cannot afford the products on the website you can always use a Cetaphil cleanser, any 2.5% BP and a gentle moisturizer for your skin type!

I mentioned earlier that I had some hyper-pigmintation and I have gotten rid of 50% of them with’s AHA+.
