I have been struggling with my weight for the past few years of my life but I have managed to keep it stable by following these 7 tips!
1. CHANGE YOUR MINDSET & STICK TO IT
If you really want to lose weight this time around then you better change your mindset and stick to it! The best tip I can give is to look at it as a lifestyle change rather than “dieting”. By creating a more positive atmosphere around your fitness lifestyle you will surely stick to it!
2. CLEANSE YOUR KITCHEN
The most helpful part of my fitness journey was getting rid of all the nasty, overly processed, fatty and oily foods that were plaguing my kitchen! Losing weight is 70% what you eat and only 30% exercise, so by eliminating all the bad foods from your diet you are already half way towards getting a fit and healthy body. So throw out all the chips, cookies, instant meals and sugary drinks!!
3. FOCUS ON WEIGHT TRAINING RATHER THAN CARDIO
Although I enjoy running outside or walking long distances, it takes so much longer to see results this way. So I found that by doing weight training exercises or HIIT exercises I see results in just 2 weeks! I personally use the Sworkit App which is free to download on the app store! (not sponsored, I really do use it lol) There are also countless exercises you can easily find on Youtube!
4. GET CUTE WORKOUT OUTFITS
Whenever I get new cute workout clothes, I tend to want to work out more! I also order a size down on my workout clothes in order to motive myself to lose weight. (it really does work hehe)
You don’t need to spend a lot of money on Lululemons or Nikes, Target always has cute active wear and Macy’s almost always has discounted active wear as well!
5. TRY CUTTING OUT DAIRY
One of the biggest changes I did that really helped is cutting out dairy! (I later found out that it was because I was sensitive to lactose) However, when I think dairy I think pizza, burgers, ice cream, cakes etc! So by cutting out all dairy, I find that it helps curb any sweet temptations I may have. Sometimes you feel like you should reward yourself for all the hard work you put in but if you cut out dairy, it will push you into creating those same dishes just without the bad stuff!
6. DITCH YOUR CAR, WALK INSTEAD
For the past 2 months I decided to walk to campus (which is 15-20 minutes away from my house) instead of driving or taking the bus. And let me tell you, the weight has just been sliding right off. I use the Pacer App (not sponsored lol) to keep count of all the steps I take during the day and it motivates me to hit my goal of 10,000 steps a day!
7. MEAL PREP
If you live a fast and busy life then you might not have time to cook healthier meals, so you order take out instead. My solution is to meal prep! Take 3-4 hours off on Sunday nights to create dishes you can store in the fridge or freezer so you can easily microwave or heat up on the stove during the week! I have tried this out a few times before and I tend to get bored of eating the same meal everyday, so my advice is to create different types of meals that can be spaced out. Also, you can bake up some healthier brownies or cupcakes that could be your treat after a long day at work!
